Preserving Tradition With a Sustainable Touch

Wood-N-You Like It custom woodworking was founded over 30 years ago by Paul and Laura Fruehan. The journey began when a friend asked if Paul could duplicate a child’s stool. Paul, who had been woodworking since childhood in his family's workshop, was inspired to start a business. This workshop, equipped with tools from Paul’s grandfather, Peter Fruehan, carries a rich legacy. Peter, a skilled pattern maker for the Lackawanna Rail Road, crafted wooden patterns for steam locomotives, and many of his original hand tools are still in use today

Our Craftsmanship

At Wood-N-You Like It, our business is deeply rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. Paul, with his extensive woodworking experience, constructs all our pieces, while Laura, our talented resident artist, adds the finishing touches. Laura’s passion for art and painting, honed through numerous art classes, complements Paul’s meticulous craftsmanship.

Stability and Innovation

Using retired US Post Office Doors that range in age from 50 to over 130 years old, we create one of a kind Banks using a substantial amount of repurposed material. Our material consists of Barn Wood, Salvaged wood, and repurposed wood that includes Church Pews, Deconstruction timbers and other sources. All doors are fully functional, and cleaned only to the extent that is needed to preserve the patina. The wood is de-nailed, and sanded only sufficiently to provide a flat and stable working surface. All our Banks are then finished with a traditional Shellac or Oil and wax finish.

Giving Back

We believe in giving back to nature for the resources it provides. Each year, we contribute a portion of our earnings to support organizations such as the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Rails to Trails Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the Audubon Society. We also support the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, reinforcing our commitment to our community.

Our Legacy

As a family-owned small business based in Western Pennsylvania, we are dedicated to using “upcycled” and “re-purposed” materials. Many of our hardwoods come from deconstructed buildings in the region. We strive to be responsible stewards of the environment while continuing our tradition of exceptional craftsmanship.
